Pro/AA winner Chris Bach

Long-time GNCC Pro Chris Bach made his first start in the Hoosier Off-Road Border Battle XC presented by Klim series, winning the Pro/AA race and claiming $1,000 for his efforts. The cagey veteran from Indiana held off hard-charging young gun Logan Kittock after the two swapped positions during mid-race fuel stops. It was the best series finishes for Kittock and third place Nick Swenson, who are both former district 23 champions now making names for themselves on the national stage.

The Frostbuster, presented by Moon Motorsports was also a big win for title sponsor Hoosier Tire, who captured four of the top five positions in the featured class. Rounding out the top five were 2018 BBXC Champion Nate Ferderer, who the showed speed to contend but had a flat tire that cost him valuable time in the pits and Devon Jirik, who had his best finish in a BBXC series race.

There was a serious threat of heavy rain or even snow in the days leading up to the race but as the front moved south of ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota, the weekend unfolded with near perfect racing conditions. Race time temps reached into the mid-50’s making it comfortable for the 1,500 plus spectators, yet still mild enough for the 466 riders, many of whom were logging their first laps of the season.

With the frost having moved out roughly 10 days before the event, soil conditions in the woods were absolutely perfect. The sand/clay mix that makes up much of the region had a firm base but was still holding moisture that continued to come up throughout the day.

The Frostbuster was also the first round of the recently announced Timbersled Triple Crown. Riders who take part in rounds 1,3 and 5, will be eligible for a random drawing to win a 2019 Timbersled SX 120 Snow Bike kit worth nearly $7,000. Round 2 of the BBXC series will take place on June 16 at the Meadow Valley MX facility just outside of Lake City in Southeastern Minnesota.
