In past years we’ve looked at the third weekend of the season, typically Canterbury Park, as being the most pivotal rounds of the year. At this point you better have all your ducks in a row and start trending in an upward direction if you are going to have any shot at being a player down the home stretch.

From a timing standpoint this theory doesn’t change in 2021. However, with the always unpredictable Deadwood now filling that key spot on the schedule, survival, as well as speed and consistency were a big factor in this week’s rankings. Rounds five and six saw two racers, Elias Ishoel and Oskar Norum continue to solidify their positions at the top of the heap with another pair of consistent, although hard earned, finishes.

We also saw a couple of veterans begin their accent, with Kody Kamm turning in the best two day score of the weekend and Logan Christian taking another step in the right direction. Jake Yurk scored a career-first win to jump into a tie with Kamm at #3 while Lincoln Lemieux had the biggest drop of the week but could bounce back quickly if he can turn his heat race success into more feature finishes.

Aki Pihlaja was getting used up left and right on the first night of competition by the race hardened field of Pros, but quickly adapted on day two, showing the front running form we’ve seen in the past.

If not for one mistake in Saturdays main event, Kyle Pallin would have been another veteran flexing his muscle, but that’s Deadwood.

  1. Elias Ishoel – Doo (-)
  2. Oskar Norum – Pol (+1)
  3. Jake Yurk – Cat (+4)
tie Kody Kamm – Pol (+3)
  4. Logan Christian – Cat (+4)
  5. Francis Pelletier – Doo (-2)
  6. Lincoln Lemieux – Doo (-5)
  7. Aki Pihlaja – Doo (new)
  8. Kyle Pallin – Pol (-4)
  9. Adam Renheim (+1)
The depth and parity in this year’s field is better that ever. Yurk and Christian have carried the torch well for Arctic Cat, keeping the heat on the competition.
Oskar Norum has yet to crack the top step on the box but it will happen.
Adam Renheim scored his first heat race win of the season on a new sled. Unfortunately, it sounds like Fargo will be his last weekend on the tour before he returns home.
Kody Kamm reported that his repaired knee is doing just fine and showed glimpes of his old self in Deadwood, launching off unique lines to capture two podiums.
